About the Role:

Lead Production Engineer Jobs in Kalumbila As the Lead Production Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and strategic direction across production engineering activities within Mining Operations. Your role will be pivotal in driving operational excellence through data-driven decision-making, continuous improvement, and collaboration with cross-functional teams including mining, technical services, maintenance, and safety.

You will analyze production performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and lead projects that enhance productivity, equipment utilization, and operational efficiency. Your efforts will support the achievement of safe, cost-effective mining operations aligned with First Quantum Minerals’ business objectives.

Key Responsibilities Provide leadership and technical guidance to ensure production engineering aligns with operational targets and mine plans. Develop, implement, and monitor strategies to optimize production, improve equipment utilization, and reduce costs.

Analyze production data to identify trends and deliver actionable insights for continuous operational improvement. Create and maintain dashboards, reports, and KPIs to track production performance effectively.

Collaborate with Mining Operations, Maintenance, Technical Services, Safety, Training, and Commercial teams to implement sustainable solutions. Lead business improvement projects to enhance productivity and operational reliability.

Review mining processes, identify bottlenecks, and recommend innovative solutions to improve production cycles. Support mine planning activities by providing production engineering input for practical execution.

Provide technical guidance in fleet optimization, production scheduling, material movement, and operational readiness. Conduct operational reviews and recommend improvements to ensure compliance with production plans and standards.

Promote the use of technology, automation, and data analytics to boost operational performance. Communicate production performance, risks, and improvement initiatives to stakeholders effectively.

Mentor and coach junior engineers to develop technical capabilities within the team. Ensure all activities comply with FQM safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Candidate Profile and Requirements Minimum 5 to 8 years’ experience in mining operations, preferably in open pit mining environments. Proven experience in production engineering, mine planning, or operational improvement roles.

Demonstrated success leading production optimization and improvement projects. Experience managing large mining equipment fleets and production reporting systems.

Strong data analysis skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data visualization tools such as Power BI. Knowledge of SQL, database management, and reporting systems is highly desirable.

Excellent report writing, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills. Strong project and change management capabilities.

Understanding of safety management systems and mining regulatory compliance. Previous experience mentoring junior engineers is preferred.

Experience in large-scale mining operations is advantageous. Educational Qualifications Full Grade 12 Certificate.

Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or an equivalent engineering qualification. Valid membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).

Certifications or training in mine planning, data analytics, project management, or continuous improvement methodologies will be an advantage. All qualifications must be certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
