Job Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the finance functions of our digital microfinance company. The CFO will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functions of the finance department, managing the finance team and driving process improvements to ensure efficient delivery of financial services to our customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance with impeccable people management skills in the financial services industry. The CFO provides strategic leadership in finance to drive growth and sustainability of the company’s services.
Key Responsibilities
The CFO will report directly to the CEO and Board of Directors and will be responsible for all aspects of the Company’s financial management, including:
Financial Reporting
Ensure timely preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
Ensure full compliance with IFRS and all applicable accounting standards.
Improve financial reporting quality and internal controls.
Lead external audits and coordinate with auditors.
IFRS 9 & Credit Risk
Lead the development and continuous improvement of: Expected Credit Loss (ECL) models, PD, LGD and EAD methodologies, Revenue recognition policies, Loan portfolio analytics
Ensure accurate impairment calculations and provisioning.
Regulatory Compliance
Liaise with regulators including: Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA)
Ensure timely regulatory reporting.
Maintain compliance with all financial regulations.
Treasury & Liquidity
Manage liquidity planning and cash flow.
Develop funding strategies.
Oversee banking relationships.
Optimize capital allocation.
Strategic Finance
Support management on Business expansion, Capital raising, Debt financing, Investor
due diligence, Financial modelling, Mergers & acquisitions where applicable
Team Leadership
Lead and mentor the Finance Department.
Establish a high-performance finance culture.
Improve financial systems and processes.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
ACCA, CIMA, CPA or CA qualification.
Master’s degree or MBA is an advantage.
Experience
Candidates should ideally have:
8+ years of finance experience.
5+ years in senior finance management.
Experience in Banking, Microfinance, Digital lending, Financial institutions will be a significant advantage.
Experience dealing with external auditors and regulators.

Compensation Package
Minimum MWK 1.5 million+ per month (Negotiable).
The final compensation package will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, technical expertise, leadership capability, and overall fit for the role. Exceptional candidates can expect a highly competitive executive remuneration package.
