NON-ACADEMIC STAFF VACANCY ADVERTISEMENT
The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to be considered for the following vacant positions in various Faculties in the University. The successful candidates will play a vital role in supporting teaching, research, and outreach activities related to their respective fields.
A. FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE
i. Laboratory Technician in Environmental Engineering
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering or any closely related field obtained from a recognized University with a Credit.
- Candidates with a Master’s degree in the required field will have an added advantage.
B. FACULTY OF LIFE SCIENCES AND NATURAL RESOURCES
i. Laboratory Technician in Computer Science
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering obtained from a recognized University with a Credit.
- Candidates with a Master’s degree in the required field will have an added advantage.
ii. Laboratory Technician in Food Science and Technology
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology or Food Chemistry obtained from a recognized University with a Credit.
- Candidates with a Master’s degree in the required field will have an added advantage.
iii. Laboratory Technician in Chemistry
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Chemistry obtained from a recognized University with a Credit.
- Candidates with a Master’s degree in the required field will have an added advantage.
iv. Laboratory Technician in Human Ecology
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Human Ecology or Consumer Sciences or any closely related field obtained from a recognized University with a Credit.
- Candidates with a Master’s degree in the required field will have an added advantage.
Additional Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in a technical support role in a recognized University or research institution.
- Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment relevant to the field.
- Experience in handling research data, laboratory tests, and statistical tools.
- Experience in conducting experiments, managing records, and maintaining quality standards.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to work with students and faculty.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High level of integrity and professionalism.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Experience in laboratory and safety procedures.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
1. Academic and Research Support
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of practical sessions for students in related fields.
- Support academic staff in the design and execution of research projects in related fields.
- Assist in data collection, analysis, and report writing for research and consultancy activities.
- Provide guidance on the proper use of tools and equipment.
- Assist in workshops, practical sessions, and research projects.
- Maintain stock of laboratory or workshop materials, chemicals, and equipment.
- Request procurement of supplies when necessary.
- Keep accurate records of resource usage and disposal.
2. Equipment Operation and Maintenance
- Operate specialized equipment related to the field.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Ensure all equipment complies with safety and operational standards.
3. Quality Control and Compliance
- Collect and analyze samples for research or quality assurance purposes.
- Ensure work processes comply with industry and institutional standards.
- Conduct safety checks and enforce health and safety regulations.
- Manage data collection and ensure accuracy in reporting.
4. Other Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders in the livestock industry to enhance practical learning and industry exposure for students.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
Terms and Conditions of Engagement
All successful candidates will be engaged on an initial 2-year contract before they can be considered for permanent appointment based on satisfactory performance.
Remuneration will be in line with LUANAR Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service (2023) applicable to staff on fixed-term contract.
