About the Role:
Superintendent Digital Innovations Jobs Kalumbila Reporting to the IT & Digital Manager at Kansanshi Mining Plc., the Superintendent will spearhead the development and execution of AI strategies that enhance mining production, maintenance, safety, logistics, and workforce productivity.
This role demands a blend of deep AI expertise and mining domain knowledge to embed advanced technologies such as machine learning, generative AI, computer vision, and intelligent automation within operational workflows. The successful candidate will champion responsible AI adoption, ensuring compliance with governance and ethical standards while building internal AI capabilities.
Key Responsibilities Develop and implement AI strategies aligned with operational priorities across mining, processing, maintenance, and safety functions. Lead identification, scoping, and business case development for high-impact AI use cases across mining and support services.
Manage the full AI solution lifecycle from data acquisition, model development, deployment, to continuous improvement using MLOps/LLMOps best practices. Integrate AI models with operational technology systems including SCADA, fleet management, mine planning, and condition monitoring platforms.
Lead and mentor a team of AI Engineers, Data Scientists, and AI Specialists, fostering innovation and skills development. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed AI insights into daily workflows and decision-making processes.
Oversee predictive maintenance models for critical mining assets using vibration, thermal, and operational data. Drive implementation of computer vision and AI-powered production optimisation tools, including digital twin technologies.
Manage vendor relationships and AI technology partnerships relevant to the mining sector. Administer the AI section budget ensuring investments deliver measurable ROI.
Promote AI literacy through training programs, workshops, and enablement sessions. Produce executive-level reports on AI program performance, risks, and strategic roadmaps.
Ensure all AI initiatives comply with regulatory, environmental, and data governance policies. Stay current with emerging AI research, mining technology trends, and industry best practices.
Establish customer success strategies and communicate the value of digital innovations to organizational performance. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, or related analytical/engineering discipline.
Postgraduate qualification or Master’s degree in AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, or Mining Engineering with AI specialization is highly advantageous. Certifications in AI/ML platforms such as Microsoft Azure AI Engineer, AWS Machine Learning Specialty, or Google Professional Machine Learning Engineer are desirable.
Extensive knowledge of mining operations including Mine Technical Services, Processing, and Smelter operations. Project management certifications (PMP, PRINCE2, Agile/Scrum) are a plus.
All academic qualifications must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA). Minimum 10 years’ experience delivering AI and data initiatives in mining environments, with at least 3 years in leadership roles.
Proven ability to translate complex AI use cases into actionable operational solutions. Experience integrating AI with operational technology systems such as SCADA, DCS, and fleet management platforms.
Advanced skills in machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and time-series modelling for predictive maintenance. Proficiency in Python and AI frameworks including TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, and XGBoost.
Experience with cloud AI platforms (Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI) and MLOps tools. Knowledge of industrial data protocols (OPC-UA, MQTT, Modbus) and geospatial data processing is beneficial.
Membership in ICTAZ or EIZ is an advantage. Proven experience working in mining operations is essential.
