Head of Projects

Department: Project Management 

Reports to: Managing Director (MD)

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Head of Projects is responsible for providing strategic leadership, governance, and overall accountability for the Project Department. The role ensures the successful planning, execution, and delivery of all signature projects and events, while driving operational excellence, cross-department coordination, regional expansion, stakeholder value, and organizational resilience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Department Leadership & Strategy

• Lead the Project Department as a strategic function, setting direction, priorities, and performance standards.
• Translate organizational objectives into structured project delivery frameworks and execution roadmaps.
• Provide senior-level decision-making on project scope, sequencing, and resource allocation.

Project Delivery & Operational Excellence

• Oversee end-to-end delivery of all signature projects.
• Institutionalize and enforce SOPs for project planning, execution, and close-out.
• Ensure milestone tracking, performance control, and post-project reviews.

Financial Oversight & Resource Management

• Oversee project budgets, cost control, and resource utilization.
• Monitor financial performance and manage variances.
• Provide accurate reporting to executive management.
• Drive coordination between Projects, Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Finance

Stakeholder & Partnership Management

• Act as a senior interface for sponsors, partners, government entities, and collaborators.
• Ensure strong coordination with external stakeholders.
• Support the development of strategic partnerships.

Regional Expansion & New Market Projects

• Lead planning and execution of regional and new-market projects.
• Oversee feasibility, stakeholder engagement, and localized delivery models.
• Ensure scalability and sustainability of new initiatives.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

• Embed MEL practices across the project lifecycle.
• Ensure post-project evaluations and lessons learned.
• Promote continuous improvement and accountability.

Risk Management & Operational Readiness

• Integrate risk and disaster management frameworks into projects.
• Oversee risk mitigation and operational readiness.
• Strengthen departmental resilience.

Team Leadership & Capacity Development

• Lead, mentor, and manage project teams.
• Oversee performance management and capacity building.
• Foster a high-performance delivery culture.
