1. JOB PURPOSE:
To lead the mechanical engineering division, ensuring the mechanical integrity and optimal performance of all static and rotating equipment across the plant. The Manager-Mechanical is responsible for the execution of the preventive/predictive maintenance schedules, troubleshooting critical breakdowns, managing mechanical workshops, and ensuring the reliability of utilities (Boilers, Compressors, Pumps, and Piping).
2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintenance Execution: Plan, schedule, and supervise daily mechanical maintenance activities (corrective, preventive, and predictive) to minimize downtime. Manage the execution of major mechanical overhauls and Turnaround (TAR) scopes.
Reliability Improvement: Lead Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for major mechanical failures. Implement corrective actions to improve MTBF.
Spare Parts Management: Oversee the inventory of critical mechanical spares (pumps, seals, bearings, valves) to optimize stock levels while ensuring high availability for emergency repairs.
Workshop Operations: Manage the internal machine shop, welding bays, and fabrication facilities. Ensure the quality of in-house repairs and refurbishments.
Technical Support: Provide expert technical support to the operations team for troubleshooting complex mechanical issues (vibration analysis, alignment, thermography).
Contractor Management: Supervise third-party mechanical contractors during major shutdowns or specialized repair work (e.g., turbine servicing, pipeline welding), ensuring adherence to safety permits and quality standards.
HSE Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to the Permit to Work (PTW) system, Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), and safe lifting practices within the mechanical department.
Team Supervision: Manage a team of Mechanical Supervisors, Technicians, and Planners. Allocate daily workloads and conduct on-the-job training to upskill the team.
3. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s in Mechanical/Power Engineering is a plus).
Experience: 12–15 years of experience in maintenance and mechanical engineering within a continuous process industry. Must have at least 5 years of supervisory/management experience leading a shift or discipline team.
Certifications: NDT Level II/III certifications, Vibration Analysis (ISO Category II/III), or relevant condition-monitoring certifications are mandatory.
4. COMPETENCIES:
In-depth knowledge of ASME/API/ANSI standards for piping and pressure vessels.
Expert-level knowledge of rotating equipment (Centrifugal Compressors, Gearboxes, Large Pumps) and static equipment (Heat Exchangers, Columns).
Proficiency in CMMS (e.g., SAP PM Module) and Microsoft Project.
Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to shop-floor management.
Excellent communication skills to bridge the gap between strategic goals and technical execution.
