Laboratory Technologist Jobs in Lusaka – Join CIDRZ's RotaOmics Project CIDRZ is seeking a skilled Laboratory Technologist to join our team in Lusaka, Zambia. This full-time position supports the RotaOmics Project by managing laboratory operations, processing biological specimens, and performing immunological assays.

Key Responsibilities for Laboratory Technologist Jobs in Lusaka Receive, process, label, store, and maintain traceability of biological specimens following approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Perform laboratory procedures including PBMC isolation, cryopreservation, ELISA, ELISpot, and prepare samples for flow cytometry and molecular analyses. Maintain and monitor the project biobank to ensure specimen integrity and proper storage conditions.

Prepare and package biological specimens for shipment in compliance with IATA and institutional requirements. Maintain accurate laboratory records, enter data securely into approved databases, and uphold confidentiality of research information.

Ensure compliance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), biosafety, biosecurity, and quality management standards. Monitor laboratory supplies and equipment, report procurement needs, and assist with quality control and troubleshooting.

Support laboratory planning, study monitoring visits, audits, regulatory inspections, and contribute to study report preparation. Contribute to assay development, SOP updates, staff training, and scientific research activities.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator or Study Coordinator.

Qualifications and Experience Required Essential:

  • Diploma in Biomedical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Laboratory Medicine, or related scientific field.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a biomedical or clinical research laboratory setting.
  • Experience supporting clinical research and processing human biological specimens such as blood, stool, and tissue samples.
  • Practical skills in immunological assays including ELISA and ELISpot.
  • Experience with PBMC isolation, cryopreservation, biobanking, and laboratory quality systems.

Desirable:

  • Experience with flow cytometry sample preparation and immune cell assays.
  • Background in vaccine, infectious disease, or enteric disease research.
  • Knowledge of biological specimen shipment procedures and IATA regulations.
  • Familiarity with molecular immunology, transcriptomics, or spatial biology techniques.
  • Current certifications or training in GCP, GCLP, and biosafety.
  • Competencies and Skills Strong laboratory and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Comprehensive understanding of laboratory quality systems and research compliance.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and record-keeping abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proactive problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Commitment to ethical research practices, participant confidentiality, and continuous professional development.
