Head of Construction Jobs in Lusaka – Renewable Energy Sector Precision Recruitment International is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic professional for the position of Head of Construction based in Lusaka, Zambia. About the Head of Construction Role Reporting directly to the Head of Development and Executive Management, the Head of Construction will provide senior leadership and strategic oversight of the company’s construction portfolio.
This contract role requires managing projects from Financial Close through to commissioning, handover, and completion, ensuring all activities meet safety, quality, technical, and commercial standards. Regular travel to project sites across Zambia is expected.
Key Responsibilities for Head of Construction Jobs in Lusaka Lead and oversee construction activities across utility-scale Solar PV and Wind projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. Manage project delivery phases including mobilisation, construction, commissioning, commercial operation date (COD), and handover to Operations.
Supervise EPC contractors, OEMs, specialist subcontractors, and Owners’ Engineers to ensure compliance with contractual, technical, programme, quality, and HSE requirements. Develop and monitor construction schedules, resource allocation, project controls, costs, and critical path activities.
Champion health, safety, and environmental (HSE) leadership alongside quality assurance and technical compliance across all projects. Identify and mitigate risks related to technical, commercial, programme, HSE, and stakeholder engagement.
Oversee commissioning, defect resolution, and successful project handover to Operations & Maintenance teams. Maintain strong relationships with EPC contractors, lenders, Independent Engineers, ZESCO, regulators, and other key stakeholders.
Ensure rigorous governance, reporting, documentation, and compliance throughout the construction portfolio. Lead, develop, and mentor the construction team to foster accountability, collaboration, safety, and delivery excellence.
Collaborate closely with Development, Commercial, Finance, Legal, Asset Management, and Operations departments for seamless project execution. Provide regular performance updates to Executive Management covering progress, costs, risks, quality, HSE, and contractor performance.
Qualifications and Experience Required A degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Building Science, or a related field. Minimum of 15 years post-graduate experience in construction, engineering, or major infrastructure project delivery.
At least 7 years in senior construction or project management roles focused on major infrastructure, energy, or renewable energy projects. Proven leadership managing EPC, EPCM, or major construction contractors on complex projects.
Strong expertise in construction contracts, programme management, project controls, and contractor oversight. Demonstrated ability to manage interfaces among civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
Comprehensive knowledge of HSE standards, quality assurance, commissioning, and project close-out processes. Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
Strong commercial awareness and risk management capabilities. Valid driver’s license with willingness to travel regularly to project sites.
Desirable Skills and Experience Experience specifically in utility-scale Solar PV and/or Wind projects. Background working with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), renewable energy developers, EPC contractors, Owner’s Engineers, or major infrastructure organisations.
Familiarity with project finance or limited-recourse financing structures. Experience collaborating with international EPC contractors and OEMs.
Professional registration with relevant engineering, construction, or project management bodies. Experience managing construction portfolios rather than individual projects.
