Key Responsibilities for Civil Engineer Jobs in Zambia Manage daily construction operations, ensuring adherence to design specifications, safety protocols, and project schedules.
Interpret architectural and engineering plans to provide clear guidance to site teams for precise execution. Perform surveying, level marking, and setting out reference points, elevations, and alignments on-site.
Supervise site labor and contractors, offering technical support and resolving on-site challenges promptly. Monitor the quality of materials and workmanship, enforcing compliance with building codes and safety standards.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and surveyors to synchronize site activities with project goals. Maintain comprehensive site records, including progress reports, material consumption, and labor deployment.
Assist in preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost estimates, and verifying material quantities during construction. Conduct inspections and quality assurance checks on foundations, concrete, steel, and structural elements.
Ensure site cleanliness, orderliness, and environmental compliance throughout the project lifecycle. Provide technical support during material testing such as soil, concrete, blocks, asphalt, and steel.
Report project progress, challenges, and resource needs regularly to management. Review and validate designs, ensuring construction aligns with approved drawings and specifications.
Offer technical input on structural design, land compaction, block testing, and related engineering tasks. Assess foundation strength and material suitability through rigorous testing protocols.
Plan projects by analyzing drawings, blueprints, survey reports, maps, and geotechnical/topographical data. Estimate material, equipment, and labor requirements to establish accurate project costs.
Track project milestones and submit consistent progress reports to management. Inspect completed structures and recommend necessary repairs or maintenance.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support successful project delivery. Qualifications and Experience Required Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
Registered and fully paid-up member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) with a valid practicing license. Minimum of 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in construction projects, with proven expertise in fuel station construction.
Core Competencies and Performance Areas Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and modern tools. Comprehensive understanding of construction materials, methods, and techniques for buildings, roads, and infrastructure.
In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and enforcement on construction sites. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex engineering challenges.
Effective verbal and written communication for collaboration and reporting. Ability to balance creativity with analytical thinking during project execution.
Highly detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and quality standards. Proven ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
