Assistant Marine Surveyor

Role Summary

The Assistant Surveyor conducts marine, cargo, and bunker surveys, manages client communication, and delivers accurate reports on time while maintaining professionalism and impartiality.

Location: Port Louis, Mauritius (On-site)
Contract: Permanent

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and manage bunker survey jobs (e.g., BQS, OBQ, on/off hire) and resolve client issues.

• Carry out marine, cargo, P&I, and H&M surveys in line with company and P&I club requirements.

• Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders, and deliver timely preliminary and final reports.

• Support other business areas (e.g., ship agency, chandelling, liner services) when required.

• Ensure all work is independent, factual, and unbiased.

• Promote teamwork, accountability, and high professional standards.

• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Line Manager.

Key Deliverables

• Manage bunker jobs efficiently and accurately.

• Deliver high-quality survey work that meets client requirements.

• Support business growth initiatives.

• Follow all corporate ethics, safety (HSSE), and regulatory standards.

• Improve quality and efficiency within the survey function.

• Apply strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

• Provide excellent customer service and build lasting client relationships.

• Identify and communicate risks effectively.

Candidate Requirements

• Degree or engineering qualification.

• Sailing experience as a deck or engine officer.

• At least 2 years’ relevant experience in marine/survey/shipping roles.

• Good understanding of shipping operations and client needs.

• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

• Proficient in MS Office and internal systems.

• Able to work under pressure and extended hours if needed.

• Valid driving licence is an advantage.
