ART Providers – HIV Nurse Practitioners

Employment Information

The North Western Provincial Health Office, under the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Project through a Cooperative Agreement (CoAg) with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the positions listed below, to be employed on a ten (10) month contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.

Responsibilities or duties

  • HIV Case Identification: Undertakes effectively HIV Testing Services and counselling in order to facilitate timely linkage to care.
  • Treatment Services: Provides comprehensive nursing care and treatment to HIV/TB patients, administers ART, and monitors side effects to improve clinical outcomes.
  • Retention: Implements adherence and retention strategies, including follow-ups and community tracing, to promote long-term engagement in care.
  • Viral Load Monitoring: Coordinates viral load testing and ensures timely communication of results in order to facilitate appropriate clinical interventions.
  • Prevention: Provides HIV prevention services including PrEP, PEP, counselling, and health education to reduce new infections.
  • Nursing Care & Counselling: Develops and implements nursing care plans, provides psychosocial support, and educates patients and families on ART adherence and lifestyle modification.

Qualifications or requirements 

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Diploma/Degree in Nursing or equivalent.
  • Certification in HIV Care and ART Management.
  • Valid registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ).
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive nursing/clinical reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and local languages.
  • Integrity, confidentiality, empathy, counselling and interpersonal skills.

Experience needed

  • At least two (2) years post-qualification experience, preferably in HIV/TB care.
